Daryl van Wouw - Amsterdam

Board games form the inspiration for Daryl van Wouw's SS10 collection. The board (a flat square) presents the
designer with a surprising amount of freedom of expression. An analysis of the game, the board, and the pieces led
Daryl to explore new dimensions.
A point has no dimensions. It acquires its first dimension when you stretch it into a line. This one-dimensional object
can then be given a width by stretching it into a square to obtain a 2-dimensional square that forms the typical
game board. This square can then be stretched into cube that forms a 3-dimensional game board.
This process
of adding dimensions can be continued indefinitely by creating hypercubes of increasing orders, giving ever more
degrees of expression.
Daryl adds a second dimension to his designs through his signature prints. The third dimension adds the depth to
the items, witness the geometrical cube dress. The higher dimensions will manifest themselves during the catwalk
show where the designs, music, styling, hair, and make-up all fuse together to give a unique hypercubesque
experience.
Black and grey tints are predominant in the collection, with accents of fuchsia, lime, and turquoise. These are
applied to striking items such as the detailed leather jacket, the braided shawl, and the by now well-known
sweaterdress.
